A model for electromagnetic extraction of rotational energy and formation of accretion-powered jets in radio galaxies

چکیده
A self-similar solution for the 3D axi-symmetric radiative MHD equations, which revisits the formation and acceleration of accretion-powered jets in AGNs and microquasars, is presented. The model relies primarily on electromagnetic extraction of rotational energy from the disk plasma and forming a geometrically thin super-Keplerian layer between the disk and the overlying corona. The outflowing plasma in this layer is dissipative, two-temperature, virial-hot, advective and electron-proton dominated. The innermost part of the disk in this model is turbulent-free, sub-Keplerian rotating and advective-dominated. This part ceases to radiate as a standard disk, and most of the accretion energy is converted into magnetic and kinetic energies that go into powering the jet. The corresponding luminosities of these turbulent-truncated disks are discussed. In the case of a spinning black hole accreting at low accretion rates, the Blandford-Znajek process is found to modify the total power of the jet, depending on the accretion rate.

A Search for Molecular Gas in Low Luminosity Radio Galaxies
We discuss CO spectral line data of a volume-limited sample of 23 nearby (z < 0.03) low luminosity radio galaxies, selected from the B2 catalogue. Most of such objects (16/23) have HST imaging. Our aim is to establish the distribution of molecular gas masses in low lumi-nosity radio galaxies, in comparison with other radio source samples, confirm the suggestion that the CO is in ordered rotatio...
متن کاملEffect of the temperature profile of the accretion disk on the structure of jets and outflows around protostars
Magnetic fields play an important role in creating, driving, and in the evolution of outflows and jets from protostars and accretion disks. On the other hand, the temperature profile of the accretion disks may also affect the structure of the magnetic field and outflows. In this paper, we use the self-similar method in cylindrical coordinates to investigate the effect of the temperature profile...
متن کاملHot and cold gas accretion and feedback in radio - loud active galaxies
We have recently shown that X-ray observations of the population of 'low-excitation' radio galaxies, which includes most low-power, Fanaroff-Riley class I sources as well as some more powerful Fanaroff-Riley class II objects, are consistent with a model in which the active nuclei of these objects are not radiatively efficient at any waveband. In another recent paper Allen et al. have shown that...
متن کاملAGN Zoo and Classications of Active Galaxies
We review the variety of Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) classes (so-calledAGN zoo") and classification schemes of galaxies by activity types based on their optical emission-line spectrum, as well as other parameters and other than optical wave-length ranges. A historical overview of discoveries of various types of active galaxies is given, including Seyfert galaxies, radio galaxies, QSOs, BL Lace...
متن کاملGrand Unification II: Hot Accretion and AGN Jets
We show that a quasi-spherical (QS) hot accretion flow is expected to operate in all SMBHs, with its rate being capped at ṁQS,max ∼ 0.001(M/10 M⊙) in units of the Eddington rate. It is then proposed that AGN jet power is proportional to the product of the hot accretion rate and a SMBH spin-dependent efficiency for energy extraction in the form of jets. Predictions from this model include (1) wh...
